Context TV GmbH
Founded in 2001 Berlin-based Context TV produces high quality non-fictional TV content, especially documentaries for the German and international market.

The company initially specialized in the area of scientific-historical expeditions and explorations, particularly of the underwater-segment. Productions in this genre include documentaries about the shipwrecks of the 'Titanic' and the 'Bismarck' (amongst others for ZDF, ABC, USA) as well as productions like 'Project Alicia - Return to U-1195' (amongst others for ZDF, Discovery Networks Europe, WGBH-NOVA, Discovery Communications) and 'Exercise Tiger' (in co-production with Arte, ABC/USA), which was nominated for the prestigious Emmy Award in the United States in 2005. Moreover, Context TV produced the 6-episode series 'The Cowboy and His Sub' for Discovery and the Film 'Underwater Dream Machine' for WGBH-NOVA.

In the course of a restructuring of the company in the spring of 2006, the scope of productions was expanded. Besides classical news coverage, the production of magazine-format-segments, promotional and industrial films as well as science programs, the focus of the company has now shifted to international prime time films shot in high-resolution HDTV-quality and the production of serial non-fictional formats.

In our films we focus on unique and universal stories that have their own handwriting such as the international documentary 'Shooting Under Fire' that portrays the work of REUTERS-photographers in Israel and the Palestinian Area which won the German TV-Award (der Deutsche Fernsehpreis) and the Human Rights prize among others and was produced for WDR and National Geographic international. Current productions include the international version of a documentary about the Indian freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose for WDR/BR/Arte and Telepool (www.telepool.de) as well as two episodes of the Sub Hunt series for ZDF and Discovery Science, starting with the sunken fleet at the Bikini Atoll.

Since 2006, the development and production of serial non-fictional formats has become an important business area of Context TV. With the production of 9 episodes of the Context TV co-developed format 'Fat Machines' starring the German acting star J¸rgen Vogel for the Discovery-owned broadcaster DMAX, Context TV was able to realize a successful docutainment series that became one of the most important show for the new and successful channel. Another series entitled 'Wildlife Nannies' (international version) is currently being produced for ZDF (30 x 43') and the American HD-broadcaster VOOM (18 x 30'). The format is produced entirely on HD and is being distributed by Electric Sky (www.electricsky.com).

Context TV has working relationships with most of the important German and many international broadcasters and has produced films for channels such as ZDF, ARD, Arte, DMAX, Discovery Channel, WGBH NOVA, ABC, National Geographic, BBC, ABS, CNN and PBS. The complete production process from the first idea to the last touches in post-production is realized by a small efficient team of staff and freelance employees in Berlin. Context TV draws on its extensive know-how of all domains of film and TV production as well as on a national and international network of creatives.
