Kaspar-Film oHG
Kaspar-Film was founded in 1999 by documentary director Kirsten Esch in Munich. She was joined by film editor and manager Magnus Froböse in 2004, when the company took on its present form as a OHG partnership. Kirsten Esch and Magnus Froböse have worked together for many years, creating numerous documentaries for ARTE, ZDF,BR and 3sat. This intense collaboration and a shared enthusiasm for documentary film are the factors that led them to join their forces in Kaspar Film.
Together with our professional and motivated team, we have been working to put our goals into tangible form by developing subjects and themes that reflect and open up our social realities. We have made films about the Flamenco Biennale in Seville, about the youth orchestra created by Venezuela to fight poverty, and on the topic of parasites - a controversial, political term, especially when applied to humans themselves.
Our films tell the stories of people going about their lives, while highlighting specific themes and topics of discussion - trends, movements, and a constant discourse on global affairs and events, and how they impact our lives and realities. We are particularly interested in lives that, regardless of whether their paths were straight or twisted, reflect the complex world in which we live. We share a deep conviction that the documentary film form has an important role to play in the self-perception of individuals moving about in a complex network of global connections.
Thanks to an excellent international network of professional companies and freelancers, the company has enjoyed steady growth. This allows us to present our films on the larger international market. Our production “Under the Ice” (ARTE) has been sold to television broadcasters in Spain and Switzerland. Also it won the award for best documentary Film on the Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival 2008.
Our most recent movie “Hidden children, unknown heroes”, produced in 2009 has been submitted to international film festivals and is going to be presented in Montréal, Canada in the course of an educational program of the “Centre commémoratif de l’Holocauste à Montréal”.
“Hidden Children” was also shown on the German TV broadcaster ARD and on the French/German TV broadcaster ARTE.
