Synopsis
With the explosion of the economic crisis, thousands of Spanish horses were abandoned by their owners. A group of girls has gathered around a horsewoman to give these unwanted animals a new lease of life. A cinematic novel about a childhood on the countryside and the first encounter with death.
A long summer on the Costa Blanca in the southeast of Spain. Paula and Xana are horse girls and spend every free minute at the APAC horse sanctuary. Lois, who came here from England, takes care of the starving and weak animals. Roneo, Paula's favourite horse, has to be put to sleep, therefore Xana takes over her duties on the farm and fights against all odds at Lois' side. Alexandra Kaufmann succeeds in an extraordinary coming-of-age film full of touching warmth and lightness. A cinematic novel about a childhood on the countryside and the first encounter with death. Lois is an undeviating mother Teresa for neglected animals and a strong role model for the two girls on their journey into the world. (DOK.fest Munich, Daniel Sponsel)
